Searching
Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center\\\'s student-friendly interface eliminates countless hours of unrewarding research and emphasizes what matters most: results. The intuitive search functionality allows students to perform any number of searches easily from one screen, and lets them easily narrow or broaden their searches as their research dictates.
ISSUE
Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center\\\'s default search appears on the main page and requires students to simply click on a desired topic from the subject list. Returned results are organized by source type. A related subject search guide allows students to broaden or narrow their searches as well as visit links to related subjects.SUBJECT, KEYWORD, FULL TEXT OPTIONS
At the top of each page is a basic search field and drop-down box allowing students to perform a search by subject, keyword or full-text. Specialized searches are ideal for eliminating extraneous subject matter and for building a wider perspective on a topic.ADVANCED
Honing in on a specific subject is simple with Opposing Viewpoint Resource Center\\\'s "Advanced Search." Students can enter up to three keywords/phrases and combine then using Boolean search limiters. Searches can be further limited by publication dates and document types.CURRICULUM STANDARDS SEARCH
The Curriculum Standards search allows educators to quickly identify content in Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center that correlates to curriculum standards by grade and by discipline. A cross-disciplinary database, Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center includes national and state standards for social studies and science for middle school and high school. An educator simply needs to drill down the lists to find the exact materials that meet the chosen standard.
Search Results
A successful search returns a list of citations organized by tabs into source type. Citations to articles, statistics, images and Web sites are displayed in document title order, while magazines and newspapers are displayed in reverse chronological order. With the new tab navigation, students can quickly access any number of results from different types of sources with a click or two.
A summary of the search that produced the citation list is displayed near the top of the page. Just below is an indication of which citations are on the current page out of the total number. The navigation icons on either side (repeated at the bottom of each page) allow students to access any page of results at any time or proceed to the first or last page with just a click.
