History Resource Center: World combines a comprehensive and unique global collection of resources with easy-to-use search functionality supporting undergraduate and high school research and curriculums.

World seamlessly integrates Gale secondary sources, primary sources and full-text articles from academic journals and periodicals from around the world.

Along with scholarly analysis, "day-in-history" reviews and sources encouraging additional and future study, History Resource Center: World offers its users integrated access to a virtual library of resources needed to study the history of the world.

Find Information

Researching major historical events and periods from ancient times to the present world is now easier than ever.

History Resource Center: World gives researchers integrated access to a vast collection of information not available in other resources. The database can be searched through three main paths – detailed at left.

If both History Resource Center: US and World are available to the student, a simple click allows the student to search both databases.

Search Results come back organized according to data type and extensively cross-referenced, allowing users to conduct research in a very natural, associative manner.

Basic Search
A basic search is the default search in World. Students may look for individual words or word strings to return myriad matching results.

Person Search
Users can search the database for a specific person by specifying name, profession, nationality, ethnicity, dates of birth and death, birthplace and gender. Results show all persons available from the database matching designated criteria.

Advanced Search
The advanced search combines the easy functionality of the keyword search while allowing the user to narrow his target results by employing search limiters such as time periods and publications.

Subject Search
With a subject search, students can enter a small term or phrase and retrieve a thorough list of matching results.

Chronology Search
A clear and easy way to search is by using this visual timeline to select a specific time period in world history. A brief synopsis of this time is presented. Students may further narrow their period search by entering a year, click on search and results will be returned by source type.

Results Organization

A successful search returns a list of citations for matching articles. Citations are brief references to articles, displayed either from newest to oldest or, for relevance searches, starting with the most relevant.

A summary of the search that produced the citation list is displayed near the top of the page. Just below is an indication of which citations are on the current page out of the total number. The navigation icons on either side (repeated at the bottom of each page) let you go forward or backward one page at a time or jump to the first or last page.
