Finding Information
Biography Resource Center is simple to use. Researchers can access information from a number of search options, ranging from broad to focused, by typing in the person\\\\\\\'s full name or part of the name; and selecting other criteria from occupation to nationality.
Users simply click on the name of an individual contained in the results list to be taken to a tabbed results screen. By clicking on the tabs, users access and view lengthy biographies, brief biographies and magazine articles, or find Web sites that contain information about the individual.
Biography Resource Center also offers rotating "Spotlight On" information that highlights individuals currently in the news or noteworthy historic figures. A brief synopsis of the person\\\\\\\'s importance — and a link to the Biography Resource Center\\\\\\\'s tabbed results screen for that individual — along with the person\\\\\\\'s picture are featured on the homepage.
Biography Resource Center\\\\\\\'s search engine is simple to use and consistent with Gale\\\\\\\'s other Resource Centers, making it easy to find results. Biography Resource Center employs three main types of searches: Name Search, Biographical Facts Search and Advanced Search.
- Name Search
Name Search queries the product for an individual name. Searches can be performed on full names, a portion of a surname, or surnames and first names in any order. If spelling is a concern, a search can be done on just a portion of the name by using the "Name Contains" option.
- Biographical Facts Search
Biographical Facts Search uses highly targeted searches to extract results from the database. This search allows the choice of one, multiple or all of the following options:
- Name — same as Name Search
- Occupation — search for information that appears in the career section of a biography (i.e. "politician")
- Nationality — locate individuals based on place of birth or citizenship
- Ethnicity — locate people based on an ethnic group that shares common customs, language, etc.
- Gender
- Birth and death year
- Birth and death place
- Limit search to results with images
- Advanced Search
Advanced Search allows users to focus their searches based on the following options:
- Full text — retrieve results based on the presence of a word, words, or a phrase within biographies and magazine articles
- Keyword — perform more targeted searches based on keywords attached to the entries
- Source — limit results based on the title of a reference source or periodical source contained within the Biography Resource Center
- Publication date — search magazine and news articles based on month, day and/or year of the issue
- Category Browse
Recently added to Biography Resource Center is the Category Browse feature. Category Browse provides quick access to biographical profiles and other resources on individuals in dozens of categories, such as career, political affiliations, ethnic group and more.
Biography Resource Center \\\\\\\'s results are presented in alphabetical order by last name, with birth and death years and nationality and occupation where available. When users select an individual, they will be taken to the tabbed results screen for that person. From there, users can access biographies, magazine and news articles, and other information. This information is delivered in the following forms:
- Biographies — long biographies on the selected individual, usually 2,000-3,000 words or more
- Brief Biographies — short biographies containing key facts on the selected individual
- Magazines and News — full-text articles written about or by the individual
- Recent Update — a pop-up window with a brief summary of key recent news about the person
- Web sites — a list of Web sites about the individual
Citations in result lists for biographies now include the date a biography was last updated, as well as a word count measuring the length of the essay.
Results can be printed using the browser\\\\\\\'s print commands, or formatted and printed using Biography Resource Center\\\\\\\'s commands. Particularly helpful results may be marked and saved for easy retrieval at a later time. Be sure to update the "Mark List" before moving on to another page on the site. Biography Resource Center also has a very helpful citation generator. Clicking the "View Citation List" button displays formatted citations of the resources the researcher just used.

Save and copy the persistent URL belonging to this InfoMark.
- Save desired results with a "right click" on the address box inside the browser
- You will be presented with a pop-up menu
- Choose "Copy" (The URL is now in the clipboard)

Add the Marquis Who\\\\\\\'s Who® module to Biography Resource Center for more than 1 million additional brief biographies on the most accomplished individuals from around the world and all fields of endeavor including government, business, science and technology, the arts, entertainment, and sports. Biographies include birth information, family, education, career history, creative works, awards, military history, achievements, contact information and more. Marquis biographies are fully integrated within Biography Resource Center, allowing researchers easy, single-search access to all of the information available on a search subject.
Product Information
Biography Resource Center is all full–text, all the time and never relies on citation–only content. This resource is packed with more biographies and full–text periodical material than other similar digital resources. Its content — taken from the best authoritative resources and put into one easy–to–find–location — includes the following:
- Periodical — Full–text articles from more than 300 magazines and newspapers selected for their biographical coverage in a broad range of subject areas
- Reference — More than 450,000 biographies on more than 380,000 people, including biographies (2,000–3,000–word essays) from Gale titles such as Contemporary Authors, Dictionary of American Biography, Encyclopedia of World Biography, Notable Scientists: From 1900 to the Present, Scribner Encyclopedia of American Lives, and Contemporary Black Biography, as well as brief biographies from Gale titles such as Who\\\\\\\'s Who Among African Americans, Directory of American Scholars, Writer\\\\\\\'s Directory and Almanac of Famous People, which also include citations for additional resources
- Add–on Modules — Customers have the option of adding two modules further expand the list of content available in Biography Resource Center. The first, Lives & Perspectives, includes more than 160,000 concise and in–depth biographies drawn from reference sources, such as American Men & Women of Science and nearly 40 other titles. Next, Marquis Who\\\\\\\'s WhoTM, a database of more than one million brief biographies, adds further reliable content to Biography Resource Center\\\\\\\'s expansive collection.
Between 50,000–75,000 new and/or updated biographies from notable Gale titles are added to this resource each year. And more than 500 never–before–published biographies per year, written specifically for inclusion in Biography Resource Center, are also included.
